Frustrated Iraqis ready to take law into own hands - Yahoo! News

Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

I guess I am glad that the people are willing to stand up for their safety but I wonder if this is also not exactly what the terrorists want. Will it make it harder to unite the country as a whole? It might be considered a step backward in some eyes.

I am not sure how I feel about it.

I think it is both good and bad. If they could get a leader strong enough to lead all these militias or if they could tie all these militias together with governmental support I think (perhaps naively) that this could work. However, I suspect it won't only because I don't think those 2 groups will be able to find common ground needed to move forward.

It seems that there is no easy fix for the problems in the Middle East and as much as I would like to find one thing to blame, I don't think "religion" can take it all on...there are just too many other things involved.

I do wish that those that are using religion to manipulate the people would be seen for what they really are and punished accordingly.

It is really sad to me that just living a good life and loving your family and friends is not enough for anyone these days.
