I was asked the other day by a fellow blogger about what the accepted link etiquette might be. I kind of figure it is up to each blogger but it did make me think, and over the course of the day, I did come up with a few questions.
1. Do you link someone just because they link you, even if you don't read them much?
2. Do you remove someone if they stop linking you, even if you read them?
3. Do you remove someone that you might have read before, has a link to you, but you just don't like to read any longer?
4. Do you only link blogs that you read and want to share regardless of who links you?
I read (everyday at least, some more than that) all the blogs in my sidebar. Some of them have me linked and some don't...I figure to each their own as far as that goes. I have others that I read regularly that are not linked yet. They are in a favorites list on IE that contains ones that I am trying out before I link them since I hate editing my template (only because it takes forever to load back up). I probably go with option 4 more than anything else.
What does everyone else think?

I link those blogs that I read on a regular basis and that consistently entertain me. Like yours!
I link to anyone who both links to me and comments occasionally. They stay there until they delete their blog on fail to write for a long time.
I also link to people who I read regularly, regardless of whether they link back.
I update my links very infrequently; blogger makes it amazingly difficult to do it. I realize it's a free service, but links, profile pictures, etc. are far too complicated.
Dave- I agree, republishing my template seems to take a longtime, that is why I am thinking about doing blog roll so I can just update stuff there and not have to do my template over everytime I want to make a small change to my sidebar.
I link who I like. I link those that link me (all but one that I know of),
I also use bloglines, have a blog roll and others in a favorites folder.
If they disappear they eventually get removed.

Nope, never do that.
2. Do you remove someone if they stop linking you, even if you read them?
I don't pay so much attention to who links to me any longer. if I see someone is visiting me frequently, though, I check out their blog and if it's interesting I usually come back to read it and comment.

Yes. It's happened a bunch of times. Their blogs just got super boring.
4. Do you only link blogs that you read and want to share regardless of who links you?
Yes, because linking is convenient and saves time. But on the otherhand I'm too lazy to mess with my template and I should update the blogroll already.
So it is looking like most people do the same thing as me and that is link stuff that they like to read regardless of whether it is reciprocated or not...
I think my friend that asked about it, was worried because they wanted to remove a link that they no longer read and the person still has them linked...I told them to do what they want. It is their blog.
I'm just upset that I'm still bottom of the list!
You're only at the bottom because that is where I found space in my template to add your stuff. It seems when I try to get fancy, the bullets or spacing gets all messed up. No order at all to my madness, I promise :)
I am probably going to upload all my links to Blogrolling soon and then I think people will pop to the top when they update their spots.
