Books

One of the things that sucks about being a fast reader...I wait at least a year if not more for my favorite authors to write books and then I end up reading them in about 4 days....wish I were able to spread out the fun a bit longer than that. I just get sucked in and can't stop....terrible.

I do the same thing so I try to begin them on days I have to work so I can only read so much. In highschool I'd just stay up all night.

I have been up to 1am the last two nights because of that book and then during the week, I ended up putting off school work for a few hours so I could read it...no will power when it comes to reading a good book.

I have no willpower for that either. If you want a series of big, long good books, start with "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon. If you want shorter books but way more of them, start with "Crocodile on the Sandbanks" by Elizabeth Peters. That should keep you busy for a good long while!

But don't forget your school work!

You just need to find authors who write thicker books :)

Mishka, who's your all-time favorite?

I guess I would have to say that I have two favorite writers.

One is Stephen King whom I have read since I was little. I went through a horror book phase when I was in fourth grade and my mom turned me onto his stuff (she was a fan) and I was stuck after that. Much to most people's surprise, his stuff is not all horror, in fact that stuff that isn't, sometimes is scarier than the stuff that is. I am a member of the SK Library and get his hardcovers when they are published at discounted prices. I just finished his new one. I have pretty much everything he has written in hardcover.

The other is Douglas Adams. My dad turned me onto him in highschool and I have read everything he has written or contributed to. And I own most of it too. I wish he would be writing more because he is a genius but sadly he died too young. His books are great. I just finished up Salmon of Doubt that came out a few years ago after he died. It isn't a complete story but has so much about him and excerpts written by him that it was like visiting home.

Of course, I have many other writers that I enjoy to read and try to keep up with but those two are my favorites and I would highly recommend them to anyone.

I like SK a lot too. Have you tried postmodernists? My favorite is Kurt Vonnegut.

What I cannot stand is that even if the book I am reading is not all that exciting - I have to finish it and I do not like having more that one book going. I want to devote totally to the author and story being told. I have a new book that I received for my BDay and can hardly wait to crack it open, but got to finish this other one first! And you wonder where Mishka gets it from...LOL

I'm totally with you.

Over the summer, I was totally consumed with "Memoirs of a Geisha." My boyfriend and I were out at dinner waiting for our food and when there was a bit of a lull in the conversation, I actually said that I wished I had remembered to bring my book with me.

I didn't mean for it to sound like I was bored with him!!!

Sounds like you need to give some more authors a chance. My problem is when I buy a bpook I don't just buy one I buy 4 or 6 or 8 and I know when I buy them that I won't have time to read them all but it doesn't stop me, and still I'll buy more a couple of weeks later. I long ago ran out of bookshelf space, I have more books in my wardrobe than I have clothes. I even have some books on the floor, I just hope theres not a fire in the house, I'll go up in flames.
