Well, today is hot tub maintenance day. After the soaking we all did after our bbq the other weekend, with sunscreen and bug repellant on our skin the water in the hot tub is pretty disgusting. It is due for the 3 month change out anyhow, so I am in the process of draining the tub.
Since I have to pull the panel off to do the draining, I figured this is as good a time as any to take the stereo out and test it. The history of it is that when we had the lightening strike in the yard in April, the static charge in the air fried out a few things. We have twenty three lights that were effected by the static (and they range from 6-18 dollars), and then the power converter for the stereo (which is 150 bucks) was also blown. Because it was blown, I couldn't tell if the stereo was out as well without taking it out of the hottub and hooking to one of our car batteries (the hot tub stereo is a car stereo).
So anyhow, I took the stereo out and tested it on our truck just now...and it works fine!!! I was able to eject the CD that has been sitting in it for 2 months too....yeah!!! At least I don't have to replace that 350 bucks...

Is there someway to ground this stuff??? It seems like there should be, so you would not have to even worry about it. I am glad you were not in it when it that happened. You will have to think of the tub as a hobie cat when a norther comes and get onshore quick!
It is grounded...that is not the issue. The issue was the static in the air when the lightening was so close...it affects really small electrical things, like the LED lights in the hottub.
I would never sit in the tub here while there was a storm nearby...we have heard of too many people getting hit by lightening here to risk it. One lady got killed somewhere in the state because she was watering plants with a hose during a storm.
Once, I traded cars and left the six-changer CD player loaded up with all my music. I went back to the dealership the next day to retrieve them, and they had already sold my car to someone else.
I guess the moral is, always check your six-changer if you're trading cars.
I hate it when things break around the house, there's never enough money to replace it.
Btw, why would this lady water the plants during the storm? They were getting enough water, weren't they?
K- I don't know if the storm was close enough or perhaps it was dry lightening. All I know is that the other night when I was watering, I saw a few flashes off in the distance and it made me hurry up.
