Explanation Needed

Someone please tell me why when we have days of beautiful clear crisp weather and there isn't a bird to be seen at my feeders but yet when we have pouring down freezing rain, the place is jam packed?

The is no cover, so it isn't like a drivethru that is out of the rain...it is out in the open. The birds look like little wet pathetic things....I feel particularly sorry for the finches that are eating out of the upside down feeder...seems like the water would run up their noses.

They are probably out foraging on the nice days and coming to your feeder for a quick and easy meal when it's raining.
