I love tea....grew up drinking my grandma's sweet Lipton tea my whole life...(didn't even know about soda until I was in jr high). I LOVE chai and green teas now, and was so happy when I found this awesome article touting some of the great benefits of drinking tea. Right now I am making a pot of green tea on this cool, clear blustery day and I thought I would share my newest discover in my Fitness magazine.
Apparently all colors of tea are made from the same leaves (just differently processed). This of course excludes teas made from specific things, like herbs, flowers, or spices.
White tea fights bacteria and viruses. "It is so potent that it can kill bacteria including strep and pheumonia and 80 percent of bacterial viruses in 10 minutes." Green tea may protect against breast cancer and Alzeheimer's. "It contains EGCG which may block subtle molecular changes that can lead to cancer." It can boost brain power because of that same EGCG It can also help you lose weight...EGCG is known to help boost your metabolism. Lastly black tea helps prevent heart disease and ovarian cancer.
So don't feel the least bit guilty the next time you drink a glass or cup of tea...even with it sweetened and light (yes, I do drink it English style at times), you are doing your body a favor!!!

I have been drinking tea too and a lot of it since I quit drinking soda. I love Chai!! I still haven't got into Green Tea yet but I bought a box of 4 different ones so I'm going to try them soon. I also like English Breakfast and Earl Grey.
I like English Breakfast and Earl Grey too. I by the Lady Earl Grey sometimes too....oh, and right now one of my all time favorites is Stash's Black Spice Chai!!! That is awesome...reminds me of the Chai Lattes at Starbucks...
My grandmother use to make Chinese restaurant tea - which is Jasmine - I remember as a child it's wonderful floral bouquet as it was steeping - we drank that tea sweet, but now I want all my tea straight unless I am not well, then I want Lipton brewed strong with a teaspoon of honey, lemon and a shot of whiskey! You know girls, the infamous "Hot Toddy" that makes you feel so much better!
I'm a tea-a-holic and drink a lot every day. I'm not a huge fan of greens, kinda like hot water and grass clippings, though when out for Chinese or Japanese food I'll drink whatever they serve. :)
I'm a huge fan of white tea because of it's mellow taste. I had no idea it actually helped fight bacteria/viruses so that makes me happy! Oh, and I also like English Breakfast and Earl Grey.
Love them all and only drink tea for my caffeine boost--always knew it was good for me! Thanks for the tip on white teas--haven't tried that yet but will now.
